Guide Dog Expenses Tax-Free

Are you in a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) through your employer? These accounts allow you to have money deposited from your paycheck with no taxes deducted to go toward paying medical expenses.

With an HSA or FSA, your guide dog is an expense eligible for reimbursement. All costs incurred in training an maintaining a guide dog are included. Covered costs would be food, medications, vet visits, dental care products or any costs associated in the care or maintenance of your dog. Savings can be as much as 20% for these costs when using pre-tax dollars.

For more information about HSA and FSA's see your employer's human resources department. For more specific tax information please go to this link:http://www.irs.gov/publications/p502/index.html
