What's in the Mix?

As graduates with a Southeastern Guide Dog you know that your dog's lineage has been carefully recorded and tracked. Your dog's ancestry has no surprises lurking in the background. Not so for owners of mixed-breed pooches, left to wonder what went into the mix for their dogs. Until now. Two companies, Mars, Inc. and MetaMorphix, Inc. offer DNA testing to determine the breed mix of a pet. The cost of the tests range from $70 to $200. Pet owners curious enough to buy the tests can have Fido's DNA genetically identified and certified over 100 potential breeds.
