ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center

Even if your house is dog-proofed, dogs can find the strangest things. Keep this number handy in case you suspect your dog may have eaten a toxic substance: 888-426-4435. It is the number to the ASPCA's Animal Poison Control Center.

In the event of a suspected poisoning you should first call your vet or your areas' emergency clinic. If you are not able to reach a clinic, the Poison Control Center will assess the situation with you. A consultation fee of $60 will be charged, but it is money well spent to know if your dog has eaten a potentially lethal substance. The center is considering a reduced rate program for service dog consultations. We will keep you posted on this development.

For more information on pet safety check out the ASPCA website. Loaded with articles to keep your home poison-safe it is a good reference to keep bookmarked. Informative articles list household cleaning, food, drug, plant hazards and much more. Below is the link to the site.
